A Blessed Easter to You

Well they say a picture is worth a thousand words, and frankly, I don't think there are enough words in all the languages of the world that could say what this one picture alone says.

I'm so grateful that as our Lord hung on the cross - he did it for me.....AND...for YOU!

When I try to wrap my mind around his life and even though he was fully God, he was fully man, who faced all the same kinds of trials and temptations each of us do, and lived it for 33 years WITHOUT sin.....and he did so because he was totally dependent on God.

When I think about all that he went through - the beatings with whips made from leather with spikes in the end (to where his body probably looked like hamburger meat), ripping out his beard, spit all over his body, bruises and welts from being punched in the face, a crown of sharp thorns jammed into his skull, ...then to finally have huge spikes driven through his wrists and feet....and a sword shoved into his side....

It brings me to tears that someone could love me THAT much...

Which reminds me of something I saw years ago - it said,
"Jesus, how much do you love me"? and his answer was...."THIS much" and he spread his arms and died....

I pray that on this Easter, if you don't know this to be true in your life, that you would ask Him to reveal himself to you and be welcomed into the body of Christ.

If you do know him, remember all He did for you and has done for you throughout your life since coming to know him and give him THANKS...

My dear friend Nancy Malay made a comment on my Facebook Page the other day, about one of my bunnies - she said, " do you think if we keep making these bunnies, it will get Spring here quicker"? lol
That would be NICE - it's STILL cold here in Florida....but I guess that's ok - it keeps me inside, and that means I get a lot of sewing done!
I've got a couple of new things on Ebay, and a couple of things are ending in a day or two, so you need to get over there quick and check them out!

Well I think I'm starting to get my "groove" back....I haven't done much in the way of doing the faces on my dollies, and wasn't sure I could even draw eyes anymore, but I'm real happy with the way this OoAK Easter Bunny has turned out, and have listed him on Ebay.
I found this adorable vintage basket last week, and think it is perfect for him to sit in!

I also listed this Bunny Head Make Do earlier today on Ebay. What's so funny about this one is it started off to be a full rabbit, but I got frustrated and ripped its head off, and walla - a make do....lol

From the Heart of a Soldier's Mom

In the spring of 2009, I got the news that my precious son Dude, was going to be deployed. Over the last 10 months or so, I dealt with so many emotions. I knew that my son had made the best decision of his adult life, by joining the 278th of the Tennessee National Guard, but knew that this was not only a test of strength and endurance for him, but a time for me to rely on the strength of the Lord's arms to hold me.

I spent a lot of time on my knees asking the Lord for His peace....that which "passes all understanding", and He was and is so faithful to lovingly grant that on me.

As time drew closer to prepare for the trip to Camp Shelby, Mississippi - just outside Hattiesburg, I contemplated calling my doctor to get a prescription for a tranquilizer, for that moment when I would have to say that last good-bye before his deployment.
The Spirit of God spoke to my heart and said, "I can handle that". Being the sometimes stubborn child, I said, "OK Lord - I'll just ask for a couple in case I need them". Again He said, "Trust me....I can handle that for you". Well let me tell you - He was faithful to his promise!

Of COURSE I cried!

And yes, I sobbed as I saw my son walking back to his barracks as we were leaving, but by the time we got to the back gate of the Camp, I was once again flooded with that sense of peace, and the tears were no more.

To totally trust God with your only son.....

Scary.....YES, but I'm also reaping the blessings of His Peace, in just trusting Him.

As Mary said in Luke 2: “My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for He has been mindful of the humble state of his servant. The Mighty One has done great things for me – Holy is His Name.”

My son, along with over 3000 other troops were given four "Family Days" and then honored at a send off ceremony on Friday, February 5.

U.S. Army MRAPs (Mine Resistant Ambush Protected)- what Dude will be driving in Iraq. I am so thankful that these were the last thing I saw as we were leaving the back gate - I needed to see for myself, the size of them, and how well armored and protected my son will be.

I LOVE YOU "ALL THE NUMBERS" DUDE....see you when you get home!

So this son of mine continues to make me more proud with each day.
He keeps me updated on Facebook, as to what he's going through at Camp Shelby, MS, and today when I got up, I read this:
"David White is 1 of 5 guys who qualified to take the silver spurs challenge."

So I go do a search to read what all this Silver Spurs challenge is about. Here's what I found:

"In order for a trooper to be inducted in the Order of the Spur, and earn the privilege of wearing silver spurs, he must survive a demanding test of tactical and technical knowledge.
Known as a "Spur Ride", the twenty four hour plus event is considered one of the most physically and mentally grueling Army traditions that dates back to the beginning of the United States Cavalry.
During the event, candidates are pushed to their physical limits during a ten mile road march. The experience is conducted by the troopers' peers, superiors and subordinates, all of whom earned their silver spurs during a previous spur ride.
Some examples of minimum criteria are:

Score a minimum of 250 on the Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT).
Meet height and weight requirements of AR 600-9.
Qualify "Expert" with primary weapon (M9 or M16/M4).
Be recommended by Troop First Sergeant and Commander."

The 278th is a huge unit, so for my boy to be 1 of 5 chosen really makes me ONE PROUD Mama!!!!!

OK...so this is Florida, right?
Well, you'd never know it by the way we've had to dress at the Thursday and Friday night's performances of "The First Noel" at FBC, Leesburg. Friday's night's temps were at about 40 degrees, with a pretty strong wind blowing in from the NE, which was at our backs......brrrrrr!!

God bless everyone who has worked so hard to pull of such a phenomenal event, all to the glory of God!
We have been graciously fed in the fellowship hall each night, thanks to Deb and her crew. And because these temps have been so frigid, the volunteers at the Men's Center prepared hot chocolate, hot tea, cider and coffee, to warm us between shows.

When arriving, one is taken on a tour through Bethlehem, where the people of the town present the good news of the King who has been born. Afterwards, a concert telling the story of Jesus from his birth to his resurrection is presented by worship members, led by Stephen Wolgamott.

Aren't they PRECIOUS???? I got to hold the little brown one, and could kick myself in the you know what, for not having my camera with me at the time!

Some of the worship team members, who were faithful and brave to endure the cold temps, to bring the story of the birth of our Lord to the city of Leesburg.....
Can't wait until next year!!! :)

Bye Bye Best Buy

In reading Sunday's ads for the upcoming Black Friday sales, I took note of one that has my husband and I saying, "Bye Bye Best Buy".

They have decided in their ad, to wish all a "Happy Eid al-Adha", which is an Islamic holiday, but yet they will not allow anything that says "Christmas" in their ads, or for their employees to say "Merry Christmas".
And WHAT happened to Thanksgiving? A holiday that was started by our forefathers who came here to worship God Almighty, and gave HIM thanks for the opportunity to do so in a new land - free from the iron hand of government dictating to them.

According to Wikipedia:
Eid al-Adha (Arabic: عيد الأضحى‎ ‘Īdu l-’Aḍḥā) "Festival of Sacrifice" or "Greater Eid" is a holiday celebrated by Muslims (including the Druze) worldwide to commemorate the willingness of Ibrahim to sacrifice his son Ismael as an act of obedience to God.

To SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT - Abraham fathered two sons - Ishamael, who is the father of the Arab(Muslim) world, and Isaac, who is the father of the Jews.
The Koran's teachings are FALSE when they say that Abraham offered up Ishmael in an act of obedience to the Lord. It was Isaac, who was the chosen son to which the Messiah would come through. It was Isaac, whom the Lord told Moses to sacrifice, and because of his obedience to the Lord, and His faithfulness, Isaac was spared.

Any company that shuns the Lord and His birth, but will allow their ads to give praise to Islam, no longer has my respect or another penny of our money!

Am I Politcally Correct? NOPE! Am I going to sit back quietly? NOPE!

Blessed Beyond Measure

In times when we see and hear more bad news than good - when we wonder what in the world has happened to compassion and true generosity in our fellow man, we can every now and then hear of those who still put character and compassion as a priority in their lives.
I came across one such person yesterday.
I had to call an endodontist last week to make an appointment for a root canal - not something I was looking forward to, even though I'd been to this office before, and knew that the staff there were kind and compassionate towards my fears.
My first blessing came when I paid for the procedure before going in. They were giving me the same price as I paid last year, even though they'd gone up since. So I handed the receptionist cash, in the amount she had quoted me over the phone when making the appointment. She smiled and said, "Oh you get some back". I was like....."WHAAAAAAAAAT?" She said because I was paying cash, I got $100 of it back. Well that was totally unexpected, and made the pain in the pocketbook a little less severe....lol
When Dr. Sinopoli came in to take a gander at the tooth he was going to be working on and to numb the area, he left to go check on another patient while the anesthetic took affect. Before he stepped away though, he noticed that I was wearing my Army Parent pin, that Dude had sent to me last year when he was in basic training.
He inquired if I had a son or daughter currently serving, and I told him about my Dude, how he would be leaving in February for Iraq, and how I would get to go spend four family days with him prior to his deployment, and most importantly, how very proud of my son I am. He said, "Well you should be!"
He did my root canal, which wasn't as painful or traumatic of a procedure as I'd expected, and once again went to check on another patient while the dental assistant put a temporary filling in. He comes back to check her work and says, "Janelle, I have something for you". I had no idea what he was talking about.
He had two fifty dollar bills in his hand and said "This is for you". I said, "Thanks, but Kathy up front already gave me the discount for paying cash" and how appreciative I was.
Now here's where it REALLY gets good!
He put those fifties in my hand and said, "This has nothing to do with that - this hundred is from ME. When you go see your son before he is deployed, I want you to take him out to a really nice supper on me and to tell him THANK YOU for serving our country".
All I could do was ball like a baby - I never in my life would expect that from anyone, but especially my endodontist! I hugged him and told him that I pray God would bless him in every way for his kindness and compassionate heart.
I got out to the reception area where my sister Deb was waiting for me and she saw I was crying and was concerned that it was because I was hurting. I told her that Dr. Sinopoli just blew me away with a blessing I'd tell her about when we got to the car.
The receptionist asked me the same thing - "Are you OK Janelle?". I said I was, but was just overwhelmed at something Dr. Sinopoli had done for me.
All the girls in the reception area smiled and said that he had come out there and told them he was going to do that. They too, all wished me the best and to thank my precious son for his commitment to serve our country.

If you live in the central Florida area - Lake County in particular, and are in need of an endodontist, you need to call the office of Dr. Sinopoli in Clermont. He and his entire staff truly put the concerns, the fears and the anxieties of their patients as top priority, and do everything they can to make it as comfortable of a procedure as humanly possible.

Thank you Lord, that you pour out your blessings on us in so many ways - especially when we least expect it!

"Killer Oatmeal Raisin Cookies"

As requested by Peanut, here is a recipe for some oatmeal cookies that are THE best I've ever eaten.
This recipe was given to me by my BFF since second grade.....Sue

"KILLER OATMEAL RAISIN COOKIES"
2/3 C Shortening
2/3 C Butter
4 C Old Fashioned Oats
1 TSP Salt
1 TSP Baking Soda
1 C Chopped Nuts (I prefer walnuts)
1 C Raisins
1 1/2 C Flour
1 C Sugar
1 C Brown Sugar (Packed)
1 Egg (Large)
2 TSP Vanilla Extract

Mix shortening, butter, sugars, egg and vanilla
Blend remaining ingredients and drop by spoonfuls onto ungreased baking sheet (I prefer to use a well seasoned baking stone)
Bake at 375 for 8 - 10 minutes
Let cool on sheet for 2 minutes before moving to waxed paper to cool
ENJOY!!!

I just accumulate sooooooo much stuff, and I feel like I'm suffocating, so I'm going through my supplies and "what nots" that I find at thrift stores, etc., and putting them on Ebay.

The first item is a beautiful teal wool lap blanket. It only measures 27"x50", so it's got to either be a children's blanket or a cutter. I bought it because I just can't pass up a wool blanket when I see one, but then I got it home and nothing I make ever seems to incorporate this color....

A Very Tearful Good-bye

I am not good with good-byes, and especially when it comes to my kids - I fall apart every single time, no matter how hard I try not to.
Today Dude packed up Sarah and Jon's things and drove them down to the airport in Orlando, for them to head back to L.A. before going home to Spain, and he was making the long trek back to Nashville.

Whewwwwwww........I stayed up until almost 1 a.m. last night, after receiving the long awaited email from DIY, that my store was ready to have graphics and inventory loaded.
I had previously had my site with them, so I knew my way around pretty good.
I wanted to at least get my buttons and backgrounds loaded, and when I did, I just wasn't thrilled with the colors or look, so I played around until I couldn't keep my eyes open any longer and started all over again bright and early this morning.
I spent literally allllllll day long playing on Photo Shop, and searching through the various help threads on DIY to tweek my site to where I would be somewhat satisfied....lol
I'm pretty picky about some things, and really wanted to give my site an "Extreme Makeover - Web Addition", and I can say right now, that I'm pretty pleased with the look.

Getting the Sr. Respite Center Ready

First Baptist Church, Leesburg, FL

So today was our first clean up day at the building in the Ministry Village of FBC Leesburg, where we will be housing our Sr. Respite Care Center.
We will be offering care for those who are elderly and just need to get out and socialize with others, play games, make crafts, sing....
Hmmm....sounds like everything "I" love to do now, and hope that when I get to that point in my life of being in their situation, that there will be something available like this for me! :)
We had several volunteers show up to take the first steps in getting this place in tip-top shape.
Today it was all about cleaning, scrubbing, vacuuming, etc.
Two weeks from today we'll be going in to decorate and make the place feel more "homey" and warm to the guests we will be having - we want their time spent here to be a place that they look forward to each week.

I decided to feature my Santas on my logo, as they are what I love to make the most, and are usually what sells the best for me.

They're Coming Home Today!

Today I'm frantically trying to get the house ready coz MY BABY GIRL AND PRECIOUS SON IN LAW ARE COMING HOME TONIGHT!!!
It's been two LONG, LONG years since I've seen them - last time was at the airport in Orlando, when they were flying off to live in Lugo, Spain, where Sarah landed the most awesome job teaching.
They will be here through this Friday, August 7, then will be heading up to SC to see Jon's sister Jenny and her family, then off to Atlanta to visit more friends before coming back the last week of August for a few more days before they once again head back to Spain.
I'm really hoping and praying that when they come back later on this month, that my precious Dude will be able to take a few days off and drive down from Nashville. The last time I had my two kids together was at Sarah's wedding back in March of 07 - wayyyyyyyyyy too long for a Mama to go without seeing her kids!
I'll definitely be posting pics of our time together - LOTS of pics I hope :)

So it's been awhile since TDIPT has done a launch on Ebay, and Patty of Dogpatch Primitives (our awesome TDIPT group leader), came up with the brilliant idea to do one starting this Sunday, Aug. 2, with the theme "Candy Corn Carnival".

Now it wasn't easy for me to come up with something to fit into that theme, I dug deep into the distorted and humorous recesses of my brain and imagination, I managed to get this guy done up today.
He's a shelf sitter - another of my Stumpy Dolls, and is OoAK.

I think he's got the perfect Used Car Salesman smirk on his face, don't you? :) This next week though, he'll be on Ebay trying to push candy corn...

A Night at the Opry

Last night Bill and I got the pleasure to go up to Orange Blossom Opry in Weirsdale, FL, to see dear friends, Jean Shepherd and Benny Birchfield perform.
Jean is known as the Grand Lady of the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, and has been a member since she was 17 years old, when she had her first million selling record. She's now 76 years old, so that tells you how long she's been a member!
Benny played banjo and guitar for The Osborne Brothers, but then later on, became best friends with and guitar player for the great Roy Orbison. In talking with Benny last night, I found out that Roy died in Benny's arms after a day of flying model RC planes.
Benny and Jean have been married for almost 41 years and have 10 children and 25 grandchildren....just a precious couple that I'm so honored to know.
Here's a few pics of our time with them and the band members last night, just hanging out and catching up.

After months of not listing on Ebay, due to their outrageous fees and such, I thought I'd give it another shot today, as I discovered that there are no listing fees at the moment....how long this will last is anyone's guess, so I jumped on the bandwagon, while the ride is free...lol

I've never done any Halloween items, but have come up with a few this year, and just listed "Isadora" for a 5 day listing, with the opening bid at $29.95.

The Never-Failing God

"For He has said, ' I will never leave you or forsake you'". Hebrews 13:5

From the book, "My Utmost for His Highest" by Oswald Chambers, he says:
What line does my thought take? Does it turn to what God says, or to what I fear? Am I learning to say not what God says, but to say something after I have heard what He says?
He has said, "I will never leave you or forsake you, so that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man will do to me".

Have I really let God say to me that He will never fail me? If I have listened to this say-so of God's, then let me listen again.

Sometimes it isn't difficulty that makes me think God will forsake me, but drudgery. There is no Hill Difficulty to climb, no vision given, nothing wonderful or beautiful, just the commonplace day in and day out - can I hear God say-so in these things?
We have the idea that God is going to do some exceptional thing, that He is preparing and fitting us for some extraordinary thing by and by, but as we go on in grace we find that God is glorifying Himself here and now, in the present minute. If we have God's say-so behind us, the most amazing strength comes, and we learn to sing in the ordinary days and ways.

Today I pray that I will really allow God to prove his faithfulness to me.....that I will know without a shadow of doubt, that He is here and is orchestrating circumstances for the good.
My life verse has always been Romans 8:28 - "And we know that in all things, God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose".

He has shown his faithfulness to that promise many times in my life......I need to trust
he will do so once again.

My New Favorite "Toy"

I recently got a new laptop, and was able to finally get Photoshop.....a program I've been wanting to learn for quite some time.
I thought I used to love working in a dark room, but OMG this is even MORE fun...lol I could literally spend hours playing on this, even though it's not the easiest program to figure out at first.
With a little patience (something I'm not gifted with) and a few old photos, I was able to make this simple banner today... :)
I know it's not too fancy with borders and such, but I think for my first attempt, it turned out OK :)

Leigh Leigh Gets Married

Yesterday Bill and I were honored to be invited to the wedding of a beautiful girl, Leigh Anne Walter, who I've known since she was 2 years old. "Leigh Leigh", as we always called her when she was little, was a BEAUTIFUL bride, despite the dark skies and rain that began to fall as the ceremony began.
I have known the 4 Walter girls and their brother Nathan, practically all their lives - they grew up with my kids, and I just can't ever imagine NOT being at the wedding of any of them!

This past week, Bill and I went down to Lakeland (about an hour from here) to the 21st annual Top Gun RC Air Show - an international, invitation only RC Scale competition, that brings the best of the best to exhibit their skills.
I got to meet a lot of new friends from all over the world, and had the TIME of my life! :)
I learned a little more about what Bill's role as an outline judge for the static part of the competition is all about, and witnessed perfection in RC scale airplane building.

Oh what love God showed to each one of us on this day - He became flesh and willingly gave his life and endured such suffering, beyond what any of us can comprehend, so that we might be reconciled to Him and have the hope of being with Him for all eternity!

Thank you Jesus, for so great a love - for taking the punishment for my sin, so that I may live a life here, filled with the presence of your Holy Spirit, and when it's my time to leave this earth, KNOW without a doubt, that I will live in your wonderful presence for time without end.

The Wonder of the Cross

Choir and Orchestra

April 5, 2009

This past Sunday, our choir at First Baptist Church Leesburg, performed our Easter Cantata - "May We Never Lose the Wonder of the Cross".
It was a spectacular arrangment of songs that began with the triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, and ended with his resurrection.
Kudos to Stephen Wolgamott, our worship leader, for his outstanding leadership in bringing this historical event to life through song.
Before the first performance, Stephen served communion with all those who were in the choir and orchestra........a very profound moment for all. The presence of the Lord was evident from that moment on.

One More Day

Tomorrow is Palm Sunday - the day we as believers celebrate Jesus' entry into Jerusalem, where his followers waved palm branches, shouting "Hosanna".
We at First Baptist Church, Leesburg, will be celebrating as well tomorrow, as we
perform our Easter special - "May We Never Lose the Wonder of the Cross".
It is an outstanding cantata....and we have one awesome worship leader, who has worked so hard with us, to get us to where these songs are as he says, "are not just black words on paper" - but that they come from our hearts.
I am so excited about not only being able to be part of the choir, but also in how this music and the story of Jesus is going to impact those who attend.
I am blessed that some of my sisters are going to come to the performance....that means the world to me!
This Holy Week that we celebrate is a week that changed history - I pray that during this week to come, you will take time to reflect on your life and let the Lord speak to your heart.........

The Rolling Thunder

Today I was woken by the wonderful sound of thunder and rain....there's something about storms that intrigues me, and we sure have needed this rain here in Florida!

It brings to mind the song, "How Great Thou Art" , where it says: "I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thou power throughout the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee, How great thou art, How great thou art. Then sings my soul, my Savior God to thee, How great thou art........How GREAT thou art".

With that said, I found a passage in Psalms where David speaks of this very thing - the power of our Lord, and how the He reveals himself to us through nature.

Psalm 29

"Ascribe to the Lord, O mighty ones, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.

Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; worship the Lord in the splendor of His holiness.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters; the God of glory thunders, the Lord thunders over the mighty waters.

The voice of the Lord is powerful; the voice of the Lord is majestic.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars; the Lord breaks in pieces the cedars of Lebanon.

He makes Lebanon skip like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the Lord strikes with flashes of lightning.

The voice of the Lord shakes the desert; the Lord shakes the Desert of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord twists the oaks, and strips the forest bare.

And in his temple all cry, "Glory!"

The Lord sits enthroned over the flood; the Lord is enthroned as a King forever.

What's in a Name?

Did you know that God actually refers to Himself in the Bible with other titles than God or Lord? There are many Hebrew names that are linked to the specific circumstances of how God is revealing His power and glory to His people. The Lord's name stands in for His purpose, reflecting His qualities,character and attributes.

Today I want to share some of these names with you. I found a few of them written down in the back of my Bible, but have happened upon a website from which I took my opening statement, and also gives additional Hebrew names for the Lord, along with the characteristics of those names. All quotes in italics are taken from this excerpt I found online.

1. Jehovah-Rophe - God our Healer (Psalm 147:3) "He heals the broken in heart and binds up all their wounds". God wants to heal not only our sicknesses and physical health but also our emotional health or even our 'land' can be healed.
'Rapha' means restoring something to it's normal state.

2. El Roi - the God of seeing(Hebrews 2:18) - "Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted". We use this name if we are seeking God to open our eyes and reveal to us that even though men may not see our good deeds, God sees it all. El Roi means God sees the afflictions or suffering of His people and if we humble ourselves and call on Him, He will come to our aid.

3. Jehovah-Sabaoth - The Lord of Hosts(Isaiah 36 - 37)the Commander to the Angelic Host and the Armies of God. We may call on Jehovah-Sabaoth if we have lost all hope and are defenseless and in trouble, feeling trapped like we have an army of enemies surrounding us on all sides.

4. Jehovah-Jireh - God our Provider (Philippians 4:19) - "And my God will surely supply everything you need, according to His riches found in Christ Jesus". Because God always provides for our needs at the appropriate time. Abraham named the place on the mountain where he was ready to sacrifice his beloved son Isaac "The Lord will Provide", because at the last moment God provided a ram to sacrifice in place of Isaac.(Gen 22:1-19)

5. El Shaddai - God all sufficient - This could be used in unison with Jehovah-Jireh because God supplies all our needs at the prescribed time according to His riches and Glory in Christ.

6. Jehovah-Nissi - The Lord our Banner(Song of Solomon 2:4) - "He has taken me to the banquet hall, and his banner over me is love". This often refers to the banner of God on the battlefield. His banner over us signifies His presence, His power and His provision.

7. Jehovah-Shalom - The Lord our Peace(Romans 5:1) - "Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ". The way we gain God's peace over our lives is by trusting Christ and obedience to His commands which results in a 'wholeness' in our relationship with God and with others. Sometimes this is called a 'peace that surpasses all understanding'.

8. El Elyon - The most high God(Psalm 57:2) - "I cry out to God Most High, to God, who fulfills his purpose for me". God is sovereign which means that God is in charge of the entire universe ALL the time. God is so in control of our lives that nothing can happen without His permission. No fortunes, evil dictator's plans or worldly circumstances can thwart His plans.

Some additional names:

Adonai-Jehovah -- The Lord our Sovereign

El-Olam -- The Everlasting God

Jehovah-Elohim -- The Eternal Creator

Jehovah-Tsidkenu -- The Lord our Righteousness

Jehovah-Mekaddishkem -- The Lord our Sanctifier

Jehovah-Shammah -- The Lord is Present

Jehovah-Rohi -- The Lord our Shepherd

Jehovah-Hoseenu -- The Lord our Maker

Jehovah-Eloheenu -- The Lord our God

Now that I've re-read and delved into scripture to study these names (some of which I wasn't familiar with) I can see more clearly as to why the Lord directed me to post about His names today. You know the old saying, "preaching to the choir"? - well today, that's exactly what I'm doing...........I needed to "hear" this as much or more than anyone! I needed the Lord to remind me of WHO HE IS, and who I am IN Him!

Who Do You Resemble?

Most of us can say we look like our mother and/or father - that we have some of the same features and personality types as our siblings; I can look at certain parts of me and see resemblances to my mother, and then other parts of me resemble my daddy. I have the same type of humor and personality as my daddy, and even enjoy the same things in life that he did. But the question today isn't about how much we resemble those we have earthly relationships with - it's about how much do we resemble our Heavenly Father - the Lord...
The following is an excerpt from The Queen and I: It was part of my Bible study from the book of Esther - It's Tough Being a Woman.
"When, because of your faith, your life too becomes perceptibly different; when your reactions are quite opposite to what the situation seems to call for and your activities can no longer be explained in terms of your personality; that is when your neighborhood will sit up and take notice. In the eyes of the world, it is not your relationship with Jesus Christ that counts; it is our resemblance to Him".
Now as believers, our first and foremost goal is to have a deep and loving relationship with the Lord - it's our everything! But how well do each of us reflect our relationship to him, so that those who don't know him, see HIM in us, therefore making them have the desire to know Him?
This really opened my eyes - how much do I look like Jesus? Do I react the way He would? Do I treat others as He does? Do I see others through His eyes?
My prayer today is that my relationship with the Lord will grow deeper, and that the more time I spend with Him in prayer and in His word - the more I'll resemble him.

Feast of Purim

March 15 - what the world views as "The Ides of March", but it is so much more than that - especially for me.

This date was acknowledged in the Old Testament in the book of Esther, as a day of celebration. There had been a plot - a holocaust against the Jews, much like what we saw happen in Europe in the 1940's. Queen Esther, with the help of her Uncle Mordecai, helped uncover this plot to wipe out their people, and it was completely turned around to become a day of victory and celebration for the Jews. They conquered those who were opposed to them, and the Lord tells us in Esther 9:21 - "Have them celebrate annually on the 14th and 15th days of Adar (March for us), as the time when the Jews got relief from their enemies, and as the month of when their sorrow was turned into joy and their mourning into a day of celebration".
9:28 - "These days should be remembered and observed in every generation, by every family, and in every province and in every city. And these days of Purim should never cease to be celebrated by the Jews, nor should the memory of them die out among their descendents".

I'd read this book many times, but it wasn't until after my dearly beloved Daddy went home to heaven, that I read it with a whole new perspective.
You see, my daddy DIED on March 15, 1984. This was surely a day or mourning for me that lasted many years. Each year I would fall into deep depression at the emptiness at the loss of this man that I adored. It's hard to believe that tomorrow is the 25th anniversary of that horrible event.

I had no idea how I could ever turn this day of mourning into a day of celebration, as it states in Esther 9. What could possibly occur in my life that would bring about such a change?

Nineteen years after my daddy went home to heaven, I got my answer, and this is how the story goes:
In December 2002, I met Bill, and when he proposed to me, he said it was up to me to pick a date for our wedding. I quickly found a calendar and checked to see what day of the week March 15 was going to fall on in 2003 - SATURDAY! Perfect- I could have a real wedding, with all the kids and grandkids!
When he asked why I picked "The Ides of March" to get married on, I was able to explain to him what that date meant to me, and also tell him the story from the book of Esther.

My sweet husband to be made sure that this was the most special day of my life. He took care of all the arrangements for the wedding, and I got to pick out the most beautiful bridal gown I'd ever seen - I was getting a wedding in a chapel, and a gown to boot - something I didn't get the first time around.

So tomorrow I will surely remember my daddy, but it won't be the day of sadness and emptiness I had felt for 19 years - it will be a day to celebrate a new man in my life; a day of happiness....or as it says in Esther - "a day of sorrow turned into joy, and a day of mourning turned into celebration".

Sewing at Nascar Speed

After not sewing for at least a week or more, I FINALLY got to sit down at my machine today and start working on another bear.

This one is made from an ivory nappy faux fur, which I'm trimming down to practically nothing, to give it that wonderful aged appearance. I'm using vintage pink wool for its ears, paws and foot pads.

I guess I was so excited to be sewing again, that I was speeding along on my machine like I was driving in Nascar, and have now busted every single needle in the house! ARGH!!! I absolutely hate starting a project and then have to set it aside for another day - I'm just the kinda girl who likes to start something and not put it down til it's done.....

I think I'll go digging around in my sewing baskets and see if there's a little lost needle somewhere....

Anyhoo.....look for him to be done in a day or so, and I'll probably list him on Etsy - just can't handle those Ebay fees anymore...

TDIPT SWAP

We are just finishing up our Spring Swap in TDIPT, and yesterday I received my package from Deb, of Bittersweet Pastimes.

She really loaded me with lots of goodies - chocolates, honey glazed nuts, mixes for 2 different kinds of dips, some new embroidery scissors, a wonderful red wooden caddy, and this adorable little Ewe, who has a heart on the front, which is a pin cushion, and a place to hold the little scissors.

Everyone in TDIPT is so generous, and each swap just gets better! We are like kids at Christmas, when the swaps start coming in, and are all eager to see what all everyone has received from their swap sister.

A Whole New Appreciation

I had all intentions of going to the annual Leesburg Fine Art Fest this weekend, but those plans got washed away - literally!

Saturday morning I was in the living room doing my yoga - ahhhhhh, nice and stretched - relaxed to the core....so I thought!

I'd noticed Bill going in and out a few times, and when I finished up my workout, I headed down the hall to get showered and ready to start my day. I noticed some water about midway down the hall and yelled out to Bill to get him to come see if he could figure out where all this water was coming from. It was under the door where the A/C unit is, so I thought maybe it had gotten backed up or something.

Well..............Bill goes into the bedroom, with me just steps behind him, and my entire bedroom floor was under water! The "tawlet" in the small bathroom off the master had run to overflowing, and it had to have been doing so for about 10 - 15 minutes. I can't even guess as to how many gallons of water were not only in my bedroom, but had also gone under the wall and into my sewing room as well.

Out came the Shop Vac, and I'm thinking that this might not take so long afterall - WRONG! The vac holds about 5 gallons, and I think I lost count when Bill had dumped it out 10 - 12 times. While one of us was using the vac, the other was diligently putting down chamois to sop up as much as possible.

What I thought was gonna be a couple of hours of very intense manual labor, ended up going til well after supper time, and continues even today. I've got all the windows open, fans blowing full speed, and we've even resorted to turning on a small space heater on some of the areas that were closest to the geyser of water from the bathroom.

I tell ya - those guys like Stanley Steamer, Chem Dry, etc., SURE have a whole lot more respect from me than I ever thought possible! Every muscle in my body hurts and I've got bruises all over my legs from moving furniture, and hauling that shop vac full of water around from area to area.

NEVER again do I want to have to do this kind of labor again! It also has given me more compassion for those who fall victim to flooding - I never fully understood the devastation they faced when all they own is under water and destroyed.

So I guess my weekend wasn't wasted afterall - I learned appreciation and compassion - two things that I think we can all use a little more of!

Forgetting the Past

In thumbing through my Bible this morning, looking for something to share from God's Word, I came across this passage from the book of Isaiah.

Isaiah 43:18 - 19 - "Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the desert, and streams in the wasteland".

I think all of us at some time or another, tend to cling to, or hold onto things of the past - why we do, is the question. The Lord is telling us in the above scripture, that He wants and desires to give us and to show us newness of life. He even makes a way for us in times that are hard, but we have to let go of the past, and trust him with today, and with the future. Most of the time, the things we hold onto seem hard to let go of - they're familiar - they deceive us into thinking they are a safe place to hide emotionally. They've taken up permanent residence in our hearts and in our lives, and holding onto them aren't benefitting us at all, but hinder us in our emotional and spiritual growth.

Past hurts undealt with, paralyze us - if not dealt with, those hurts turn into anger and unforgiveness. Once unforgiveness takes a solid place in our hearts, it turns into bitterness, which the Bible says in Hebrews 12: 15 - "See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many". The Greek word for bitter is the same word for manure or dung. Think about manure - it's waste - something to be expelled from the body.

Manure is also used as a fertilizer, so although that can be beneficial in growing beautiful flowers, food and such, in this case, it's use is of no benefit whatsoever. Fertilizing this root causes it to take hold of every area in our life, bringing troubles and defiling many. It can and will affect every relationship in one's life, choking out God and His word, His plan for our life, It can and will destroy every relationship in one's life, if not dealt with.

Don't let another day go by without giving these things of the past to the Lord. Let Him heal the hurts, and guide you to a new life, full of His grace.

Today I made my first miniature bear - jointed no less! His head has a hardboard disc/cotter pin construction, and his arms and legs are string jointed - I can't imagine trying to put such small little discs and pins inside of him, but maybe one day I'll take that plunge...

I'm excited about how he turned out, but have got to find a way to get some good photographs of him tomorrow, and will probably list him on Etsy.....not quite sure yet...

I just finished another distressed bear, and got him listed on Etsy....

Measures approximately 17" - sits at approximately 11 1/2"

He's made from faux fur, which I've trimmed and distressed with coffee and cinnamon mixture.

He's stuffed with a mixture of sawdust and plastic pellets for weight, and wood excelsior, to give him the feel of an old bear.

Vintage wool taken from an old Army Hospital blanket, was used for his ears, and paw pads.

Perfect Peace

I am so thankful and so grateful to all those friends and family who since hearing the news of Dude's upcoming deployment in December, have prayed and will continue to pray for Dude, as well as for me.
The Lord gave me this scripture this morning, as I continue to go to him more frequently about having complete peace about this.
He says in John 14:27 - "Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your heart be troubled, and do not be afraid".
I also read in Isaiah 26:3 - 4, another familiar passage, that has a whole new and fresh message for me - "You Lord, will keep in perfect peace, him whose mind is steadfast, because he trusts in you. Trust in the Lord forever, for the Lord, the Lord, is the Rock eternal". The Hebrew word for the peace mentioned here, translates into " a full, genuine well-being".
You might be in a place in your life when you too, need to know the peace that passes all human understanding. We all face different trials and tests of faith throughout our walk here on earth, and I pray that these passages will speak peace into your heart as they have done for me.

Seasons of Life

After a phone call with my son a few minutes ago, I needed to turn to the Word of God for peace and comfort, as I got the news that he is going to be deployed to Afghanistan in December.
Fear hasn't gotten a grip on me, but it's just something in a mother's heart that I can't fully explain, that once again has me running to my Heavenly Father to reassurance and the peace that passes all understanding.
As soon as I picked up my Bible, I felt the Holy Spirit tell me to go to Ecclesiastes 3, where it speaks of "A Time for Everything". I'm sure many of you are familiar with the song The Byrds did in the late 60's, which was based on this very scripture.
"There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

This is a time for my son to accept and fulfill his responsbilities and duties he has sworn to do for his country.
To say that I'm proud of him is a huge understatement.....this was a decision he made as a MAN, and an honorable decision it is.
This is also a time for me as his mama, to spend more and more time with my Father and my Lord, for His peace, His strength, and His comfort.
I ask that you remember us as well........

Psalm 71

In thumbing through my Bible in search of something to share today, I came across Psalm 71, and it says exactly what I know someone needs to hear right now.

Psalm 71: 17 - 21

"Since my youth, O God, you have taught me,

and to this day I declare your marvelous deeds.

Even when I am old and gray, do not forsake me, O God,

till I declare your power to the next generation, your might to all who are to come.

Your righteousness reaches to the skies, O God, you who have done great things.

Who, O God, is like you?

Though you have made me see troubles, many and bitter, you will restore my life again;

from the depths of the earth you will again bring me up.

You will increase my honor and comfort me once again."

I know that this psalm rings true in my life, and our Lord has been faithful to bring me up "from the depths of the earth" many times.

I pray today, that if you are in a place of sadness, sorrow, loneliness or heartache, you will turn your heart towards the Lord, letting him bring you up to where he is - a place of love, comfort and healing.
